Where is the community located?

Wilder is located in the City of Orinda, south of Highway 24 between the Caldecott Tunnel and the downtown Orinda exit. The City of Orinda is in Contra Costa County and is approximately thirty minutes from downtown San Francisco.

When will construction of homes begin?

Homesites are available for purchase now. Construction of homes is expected to begin in 2010.

Are custom-build homesites available?

Buyers interested in custom-build homesites have a range of options. Buyers may purchase a homesite and work with their own builder to build a home designed by the Wilder design team and pre-approved by the City of Orinda, or they may purchase a homesite and work with their own architect and builder to design and build a custom home.

How many homes will be at Wilder?

The plan for Wilder provides for a maximum of 245 homes.

What are the styles of the homes at Wilder?

The style and form of the homes reflects the rural setting and Orinda’s unique local architecture. Each home is designed to complement the natural topography and landscape.

Who is the architect for Wilder’s Portfolio Homes?

Wilder’s pre-approved Portfolio Homes designs were created by Robert Hidey Architects. Since 1990 Robert Hidey has become one of California’s premier residential architects, growing his practice and pioneering trends throughout the western U.S. Blending a passion for timeless architectural styles with a keen sensitivity for regional vernacular, Hidey designed both the Portfolio Homes and the signature Quarry House at Wilder to pay homage to the relaxed elegance of the Orinda lifestyle.

Who created Wilder’s landscape architecture?

The renowned land planning and landscape architecture firm Hart Howerton authored the Landscape Master Plan and is the creative force behind Wilder’s core ideas: preservation and restoration of the oak woodland habitat and allowing the natural landscape to serve as the fundamental organizing element in the community. While Hart Howerton is a global mulit-disciplinary practice with offices in San Francisco, New York, and London, a few Hart Howerton principals are residents of Orinda with a personal interest in maintaining the town’s unique character.

Where will children of Wilder go to school?

Orinda is known for its exceptional public school system, and children living in the Wilder neighborhood will be eligible to attend these top-ranked Orinda schools.

Will the community be open to the public?

Yes. Wilder is not a gated community and will be open to the public. The community trails and open space areas are being designed to provide and invite public access.

Who will maintain the trails?

The extensive Wilder trail network will weave through the Wilder neighborhood and stretch out to the Robert Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve and other existing Orinda neighborhoods. Trails and paths that lie within the Wilder community will be maintained by the Wilder residents, while trails outside of Wilder will be monitored and maintained by the East Bay Regional Park District.

Who will use the community playfields?

The playfields will be a community amenity owned and operated by the City of Orinda. They are envisioned to be used by the general public and local sports and athletics organizations.

Will I be able to access East Bay Regional Park District from Wilder?

Yes. A system of trails and paths has been designed in cooperation with the City of Orinda, the East Bay Regional Park District and East Bay Municipal Utility District to provide an environmentally sensitive regional, community and neighborhood network for pedestrians, equestrians and bicyclists. The trail system provides connections to Robert Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, as well as to areas within Wilder and existing neighborhoods within Orinda. This means Wilder residents will have access to more than 1,000 miles of trails.

Does the project include a golf course?

No. While a golf course was contemplated in prior plans for the site, the plan approved by the City Council does not include a golf course.
